Also, each round is individually considered as a 10 minute entity. After curtain is closed in performance 1, clock will be reset to 0 and same procedure would be carried to round 2.

• It is suggested that a person appointed by the team as a helper/DJ be there with the sound technician when the team is performing.
• The teams have to submit 5 copies of the write up of both the themes depicted before their team goes on stage. This is the responsibility of the manager to hand over the write up to the event head at the time of slot-picking. Also, the MC has to explain the theme depicted by the team before the first model steps on to the stage for a minimum of 45 seconds.
• The time starts as soon as the Event MC announces the team name.
• There would be a Question-Answer round in which only 2 people from the team would be the representatives. This would be done after round 2 and is NOT included in the time limit.
• The Judges decision is the final. Any question about the result can be taken up with the Director of Manipal Institute of Technology.
• Event Head/Category Head holds full rights of the event and can disqualify a team if he/she deems necessary.
• Once again, there are two rounds, of 10 minutes each, of which the curtain will remain closed for the first 2.5 minutes. Mastermind

Mastermind

Know everything about something and lots about everything else? Then this is the quiz you should be at.
Inspired by the popular TV show, Mastermind is for those people who know about a random topic like the back of their hand, only better. Contestants get to choose their own topics, so we’d advise Wikipedia, at least for starters. Don’t stop there though – there’s a general knowledge round for each participant as well, which we’d like to think helps out the true quiz buffs.

Rules:

• Individual participation
• Written prelims based on general knowledge, with the six highest scorers qualifying for the finals
• There will be two rounds in the finals, one based on general knowledge, the other on a topic of the finalist’s choice.
• Three topics can be selected by each contestant, out of which the quizmaster will choose on in case the contestant qualifies.
• Topics selected should be clearly defined. Being too vague is not permitted (as in “music”, “science”, or the like); neither is being too specific (“India vs Sri Lanka, 3rd Test, 2009” etc).
• No cellphones or external help is permitted
• Quizmaster’s decisions are final

From Charles Dickens to Chetan Bhagat, writing has always been something of an art. JAM

JAM

Never has a minute felt so long.
“There was once a boy…” Buzz.
“There was once…” Buzz.
“There was…” Buzz. BUZZ. BUZZ.

The JAM sounds easy. It isn’t. When you’re trying to talk into a microphone, and all the participants around you are waiting to press the buzzer as soon as they notice your first mistake, life can be a little difficult.
We wish we could say the Moderator could help you. We’d be lying though. He’ll be there to make things as tough as possible. And He’s God. Don’t argue with him. It is within His power to dock points. Or award them, if you’re nice.
There you go. You have a minute. Start talking.

Rules:

• Each round will be of one minute (net speaking time) each. This does not take into account interruptions, either by the Mod, or by other participants. • Number of rounds, as well as number of contestants per round will be decided depending on turnout for the event.
• Participants will have to speak continuously, without repetition, grammatical errors, stammering and stuttering, or beating around the bush; all this for as long as possible.the bush, and sustain all this for as long as possible.
• Points will be awarded based on length of time spoken, as well as on quality of objections.
• All decisions made by the co-ordinator are final.

Mock Press

MOCK PRESS

Personalities so lewd, the press so insulting, it’s a whole new dimension to the celebrities we think we know.
The Mock Press has always been a traditional favourite at Revels. Get a celebrity, pretend to be him/her on stage. Exaggerate, put on a fake accent, make us laugh our guts out. Answer questions that would make anyone else feel really, really uncomfortable. And if you haven’t broken out into a cold sweat by the end of it, we might be sadistic enough to keep you squirming just a little longer.
Oh, and we’re retiring Gay Harry Potter. He always wins.

Rules:

• Contestants will be provided a celebrity name
• Each contestant will be allocated 2 minutes to build up his or her character, followed by 10 minutes of questioning by the “mock press”, which will ask questions appropriate to that participant’s persona.
• Being inappropriate is permitted, but direct use of expletives is not.

Extempore

(English & Hindi )

You have two minutes to impress us. And we’ll be doing all we can to leave you speechless.

For all those with the gift of the gab, this is the event we’d recommend. For starters, we’ll be serving a round of simple extempore. Spicy is always good, but it’s just to get things started, so don’t go anywhere.
There’s a three course event coming up afterward. The block and tackle simmers right at the start over there. Under those two lids – ah, what has our Event Head cooked up for us this time? No peeking – it’s a surprise.
Food-related metaphors done with, it’s time to get down to the nitty-gritties.

Rules: (ENGLISH)

• There will be one round in the prelims, where participants will have to speak on the selected topic. Topics will be provided on the spot.
• Finals will comprise a block-and-tackle and two other surprise rounds, which will be explained on the spot.
• Participants are allowed to speak in English only
• No expletives on stage

(HINDI)

Judging criteria: Content, Pronunciation , language fluency

Rules: (HINDI)

• 3 min prepration time will be given to the participants.
• 2.5 + 0.5 min for speaking.
• Max of two choices of topics for each individual.
